A brush with death becomes a descent into something far more ancient and terrifying in Mother of Flies, the latest feature from the award winning filmmaking collective known as The Adams Family. Starring Zelda Adams, Toby Poser, John Adams, and Lulu Adams, the film will begin streaming on Shudder on Friday, January 23.

Mickey, played by Zelda Adams, receives a deadly diagnosis that leaves her desperate for answers and unwilling to surrender to fate. She ventures deep into the forest with her father, portrayed by John Adams, where she seeks help from Solveig, a mysterious recluse brought to life by Toby Poser. Solveig’s connection to death is intimate and unsettling, rooted in the land itself and guided by rituals that blur the boundaries between healing and harm.

Over the course of three days, Mickey undergoes a series of extreme rites that promise a cure but demand a cost. Each ritual opens a door that cannot be easily closed. As the veil thins, long buried secrets stir and begin clawing toward the surface. Mickey soon realizes that the truth she seeks may only be understood by those who already stand at the edge of life and death.

Mother of Flies continues the bold, inventive filmmaking that has become synonymous with the Adams Family name. Working under their Wonder Wheel Productions banner since 2010, John Adams, Toby Poser, and their daughters Zelda and Lulu have crafted a distinct brand of intimate, atmospheric indie horror. Their work includes The Deeper You Dig for Dark Sky Films, Hellbender for Shudder, and Where the Devil Roams for Tubi. Their films have been represented by Yellow Veil Pictures since 2021.

The family also directed the sci fi feature Hell Hole for Shudder and the episode Plastic Smile for Screambox’s series Tales from the Void. Music for their films is performed by their band H6LLB6ND6R, further solidifying their reputation as one of the most unique creative units working in genre cinema today.

Mother of Flies arrives on Shudder with major festival acclaim, having won Best Film at the Fantasia International Film Festival 2025. Jury President Pascal Plante praised the film as a true indie that feels authentic, vital, and impeccably crafted, noting its soulful exploration of why artists are driven to create.

With the trailer now released, Mother of Flies invites viewers into a supernatural tale where survival is intertwined with sacrifice and where the dead have much more to say than the living expect.
