In PROM QUEEN, the latest chapter in the FEAR STREET franchise, we return to Shadyside. Prom season at Shadyside High is underway, and the school’s wolfpack of It Girls is busy with its usual sweet and vicious campaigns for the crown. But when Lori, a gutsy outsider, puts herself in the running, and the other girls start mysteriously disappearing, the class of ‘88 is suddenly in for one hell of a prom night.
For the release of FEAR STREET: PROM QUEEN, Creepy Kingdom’s Shannon McGrew spoke with actors Suzanna Son, who plays Megan, Lori’s best friend, and David Iacono, who plays Tyler, Lori’s romantic interest. During our chat, we discussed everything from their emotional connection to Lori to how filming FEAR STREET: PROM QUEEN became their own version of prom night.
Megan and Tyler each have their unique relationship with Lori. What did you each enjoy most about stepping into these roles and exploring those relationships?
Suzanna Son: I enjoyed how genuine it felt and how healing it was for the past version of myself to have a nice friendship in high school. It’s so hard, you know? So, it was nice.
David Iacono: I totally agree. Both of our characters are, for the most part, pretty genuine, which I appreciated very much about Tyler, specifically, and having this lovely torch of a character in Lori to look towards.

Were either of you a fan of the “Fear Street” or “Goosebumps” books, or had you seen the previous Fear Street trilogy? If so, did that influence your approach at all?
David Iacono: I’ve read some of the “Goosebumps” books growing up. I actually auditioned for the original Fear Street trilogy that they made, so I was familiar in that sense as well, so I was really excited when I became a part of [Prom Queen].
Suzanna Son: I hadn’t read any of the books because they always cost so much money at the book fairs, and we didn’t have them at the library, so I would just feel the covers and long for them. So what a treat now! [Laughs].
What was it like experiencing the prom scene? Did it feel at all like your own prom, if you attended, minus the bloodshed?
Suzanna Son: I didn’t have a prom experience, but in a way that kind of helps me because there’s that feeling, that weird pang of hurt, that I put into Megan. It helped in a way.
David Iacono: I didn’t have a prom either, because I graduated from high school in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was nice not to have to compare this experience to anything else and be fully present.
Lastly, is there a particular moment or favorite scene that you are looking forward to fans of the franchise seeing?
Suzanna Son: The gag scenes, and you’ll know them when you see them, but the jokes, the practical illusions.
David Iacono: There’s a moment where Lori’s character has this powerful revamp, rebrand, and revitalization, and I love it. I think it’s a great needle drop, and it’s in slowmo. I love that moment.
FEAR STREET: PROM QUEEN is now streaming on Netflix.
