Fandom Wedding Fair Recap

by Jennifer Vasquez

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s the Fandom Wedding Fair!

This past weekend, Fandom Wedding Fair made its grand debut at NOOR in Los Angeles, California. It’s the brainchild of Cristina Galvan, a professional event coordinator and true devotee of comics and cosplay. She has united her passion for special event planning and DC Comics to create an expo that caters to betrothed couples who want a non-traditional, unconventional type of wedding.

Would you like a ceremony with a Harry Potter or Game of Thrones theme? Do you pine for a reception that is the epitome of a Disney happily-ever-after? Have you ever fancied walking down the aisle in a cat woman-inspired gown with your groom in a black cape? Well, several vendors were present at the convention that could help make these wishes into reality.

Exhibitors were spread across two ballrooms with small-scale reception set-ups and models in costume to give guests an idea of how their special day could look. Professional costume designers, hair stylists, makeup artists, marriage officiants, photographers and more were also present. Small bites and champagne were served and a DJ, donning what looked to be a Star Wars Storm Trooper helmet, entertained attendees.

It was fantastic to see people in cosplay! There were Lois Lane and Clark Kent, the Joker and Harley Quinn, Aquaman and Mera, plus supervillains like Maleficent. At the conclusion was a fashion show where models strutted down the runway showing off their amazing cosplay outfits.

Of all the bridal expos and wedding conventions that happen yearly in Los Angeles, the Fandom Wedding Fair stands apart, showing a more creative and fun way to plan your big day. But you don’t have to be engaged or planning a wedding to attend. The event welcomes anyone that loves comics, cosplay or is just plain curious about Fandom.

The affair is slated to occur annually, and tickets were $20. If you missed it this time, you’ll most likely have another opportunity to check it out within the coming year. In the meantime, you can find out more information about the Fandom Wedding Fair here.
