Laurel (Mckenna Grace) always imagined her first kiss would be like something out of a fairy tale. Instead, that fantasy turns into a nightmare when she discovers she’s cursed with an ability to see the death of anyone she kisses. After a vision reveals her crush is doomed to die in a strange murder spree targeting her closest friends, she races to unmask the killer before the mystery becomes a massacre. 'The Last Kiss' is a colorful fun teen slasher romance, meant to be the perfect spooky sleepover movie for the mystery lover of all ages. It takes the real anxiety and horror that surrounds a first kiss and escalates it to life or death stakes. The mythology of what the kiss has meant to humans inspired the fairy tale homage woven through the film’s aesthetic, score and visual language. In a world where many of us fear intimacy and romance, I hope Laurel’s winding journey can offer a respite and maybe even a little hope that all may not be lost.
