Currently titled ‘The Curse of Ghost Island’, the film is said to begin filming in Squamish BC at the end of summer and stars some horror favourites including Liam Leone (In a Violent Nature) and genre favourite Christian Sloan (Superman and Lois)
“This is a very different film than Puppet Killer “ Ovies said. “ The climate has changed since our last release and this time I wanted to touch on some heavier themes and content.”
The kills are promised to be even gorier, with the director leaning into her love of on-screen practical FX and long-time relationship with Giene FX, a female-owned practical FX house that just wrapped its latest show ‘Resident Alien’.
The film is a “gritty story of survival, redemption and karma, set to the
backdrop of a cursed island hiding more than just secrets of ghosts and gold”
The film also sees the return of most of Ovies’ team. Many of whom have been working together for over ten years. Including the Emmy/Grammy winning duo Stephen Gallagher and Mark Wilsher, whose latest film ‘The Lord of the Rings: War for Rohirrim’ garnered them international acclaim.
Set for a late 2026 release, the film has a lot to live up to with the success of Ovies’ first film, which received an impressive hundred-plus nominations and awards on the festival circuit.
Lisa has written the screenplay and will direct and produce the film alongside Shanna Mair and Ali Mashayekhi of Landed Entertainment. Lisa is also the founder of the EmpowHer online film program that works to encourage more women and diversity behind the camera. This film has Lisa standing by her mission with a 90% female and non-binary crew, with younger filmmakers being invited to shadow and learn multiple departments during all phases of production.
Lisa Ovies is represented by Valor Entertainment. Christian Sloan is represented by Trisko Talent Management and Liam Leone is represented by The Characters Talent Agency.
