In BONE LAKE, from director Mercedes Bryce Morgan, Diego and Sage’s romantic vacation at a secluded lakeside estate is upended when they are forced to share the mansion with Will and Cin, a mysterious and attractive couple. In this darkly hilarious and seductive horror story, a dream getaway spirals into a nightmarish maze of sex, lies, and manipulation, bringing terrifying secrets to light and triggering a bloody battle for survival.
For the release of BONE LAKE, Creepy Kingdom’s Shannon McGrew spoke with actors Marco Pigossi (“Diego”), Maddie Hasson (“Sage”), Alex Roe (“Will”), and Andra Nechita (“Cin”). During their chat, they discussed everything from on-screen chemistry and character dynamics to the film’s darkly comedic tone and over-the-top horror moments.
Thank you all for taking the time to chat with me today. When you first read the script, what stood out to you and made you want to be involved?
Alex Roe: It reads really well. It’s a little bit over the top, and it keeps you engaged, and there are twists and turns along the way that mean that you can’t put it down. You don’t really read many scripts that have so much relationship stuff like sex and gender politics all infused into a movie that’s ultimately just like a really fun, gory horror movie.
Marco Pigossi: For me, there’s always something that either I’ve never done or I don’t know how to do it. The film features a specific scene of a marriage proposal, and I read that and thought, 'I don’t know how to do that and make it believable.' I was like, hmm, I want to do that [Laughs]. But also, as Alex said, the script reads so well, and it seemed like so much fun to do. Getting to know these beautiful people was also a wonderful experience.
Maddie Hasson: I really liked that Sage is not happy in her relationship. I like that she’s being quiet about it. She’s not communicating that. She’s not asking for what she wants or needs. I could definitely relate to that in a part of my life in the past, for sure. I think many women are like that. We’re not taught that we can say, Hey, I need this from you. So I really enjoyed that aspect. Apart from that, it’s just like bloody and fun and silly.
Andra Nechita: Similar to what Alex said, there were so many twists and turns, and it was such a good read. You couldn’t put it down. I really wanted to be a part of this crazy, heightened world/story and bring that to life.

When it came to the dynamics between each couple, what was done to build that chemistry and trust? Was it something that developed naturally from the script, or did you spend time together beforehand to establish that connection?
Maddie Hasson: We danced together on the first day. We did an improv dance thing. Mercedes turns on a song, and she says, 'Move your body the way you want to move.'
Marco Pigossi: We actually all met on the flight on the way there. But at the same time, it’s a film with four characters in one location, so we were together all the time. We were in a very small town, which had little to do, and so we were all very close from the beginning to the end, which helped create this.
Andra Nechita: I brought a list of questions I made [for Alex].
Alex Roe: This was excellent. We went to dinner to discuss the characters and their backstories. We arrive, and I thought it was going to be a general conversation. However, out comes a phone with notes, and it’s just the most in-depth character backstory. I was so enamored by it. It was like, What’s your favorite drink? What is your character’s favorite color? And it went deeper and deeper and deeper. I felt awful cause I hadn’t thought about any of these things, but it was really good because it kind of loosened things up.
Andra Nechita: It put us in sync.
When audiences leave the theater, what message or emotion do you hope stays with them?
Alex Roe: A good time of having been entertained for an hour and a half.
Marco Pigossi: Don’t share an Airbnb with anyone you don’t know.
Maddie Hasson: Alex’s ass.
Andra Nechita: Go alone. Go with a group. Go on a date. Take your friends. Take your parents. It’s such a good time.
Lastly, if you could each describe this movie in three words, what would they be?
Maddie Hasson: Bloody. Sexy. Fun
Marco Pigossi: Thrilling. Crazy. Messy.
Andra Nechita: Spicy. Campy. Gory.
Alex Roe: Funny. Wild. Wet.
BONE LAKE is now in theaters.
