Focus Features has joined forces with Blumhouse, the studio behind some of the most iconic horror films of the generation, to bring Curry Barker’s breakout debut Obsession to audiences everywhere. Following its explosive festival run, the film will arrive in U.S. theaters on May 15, 2026, with Universal Pictures International handling worldwide distribution.

After its celebrated midnight screening debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, Obsession quickly became one of the most talked-about horror films of the year. The film’s blend of shocking imagery and emotional dread earned it sold-out screenings at Fantastic Fest and the Sitges Film Festival, where it took home the coveted People’s Choice Award. Currently sitting at an impressive 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, Barker’s debut is already being hailed as one of the boldest and most disturbing horror releases in years.

Jason Blum serves as executive producer on Obsession, produced by James Harris, Haley Nicole Johnson, Christian Mercuri, and Roman Viaris, with executive producers Leonora Darby, Mark Lane, David Haring, and Ruzanna Kegeyan.

Written and directed by Curry Barker, Obsession stars Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter.

The story follows a hopeless romantic who breaks the mysterious One Wish Willow to win his crush’s heart. His wish comes true, but what begins as a fantasy quickly unravels into a nightmarish descent where love and obsession intertwine in horrifying ways.

Following the merger between Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster, the combined studios continue their streak of genre dominance, now responsible for nearly nine billion dollars in worldwide box office. Their 2026 lineup includes The Mummy from Lee Cronin, Mortal Kombat 2, Insidious from Jacob Chase, and Other Mommy from Rob Savage, alongside Obsession.

Director Curry Barker is already preparing his next feature, Anything But Ghosts, with Blumhouse and Spooky Pictures, where he will direct, star, and co-write alongside Cooper Tomlinson, who will also appear in the film.

Watch the teaser trailer for Obsession now and prepare for a chilling exploration of love’s darkest desires when it hits theaters on May 15, 2026.
